Allergies present as a result of abnormal immune system reactions. These reactions are to things which are usually harmless to most people. It means that the immune system has incorrectly interpreted a substance as harmful to the body. When the immune system is protecting the body, it creates antibodies called immunoglobulin E. This then leads to certain chemicals (such as histamine) to be released into the bloodstream to defend against this ‘invader’. It is these chemicals which result in the allergic reactions. Future exposure to that same substance will elicit this reaction again.
Almost 20% of the Australian population have some sort of allergy. This stressors the importance in having knowledge on how to treat, and better understand allergies. Find out how knowledge of decongestants (short-term), vitamin-c (long-term), antihistamines (treatment), soap free wash and detergent (preventative) and more, can all be very useful in knowing how to treat your patients with allergies.
